Guiding Light Scholarship Fund

The Guiding Light Scholarship Fund was established to help students who demonstrate a commitment to spiritual service, citizenship, and academic excellence. The goal is to provide financial support to minimize the burden of additional out-of-pocket expenses resulting from having to work, support a family, and attend college all at the same time. The Guiding Light COGIC wants to enable these non-traditional students to focus on achieving their academic goals and performance so that they can create a successful future.

Applicants must meet all the scholarship’s eligibility criteria to be considered.

Eligibility Criteria:

• Priority is given to applicants who are affiliated with Guiding Light COGIC.
• Currently enrolled or have been enrolled in the past year in a community college or trade school to obtain an associate degree, certificate, or in a four-year college transfer program.
  • Students who already have an associate degree and are planning to transfer to a four-year college are also eligible.
  • Applicants must already be accepted into an accredited nonprofit school/program before applying for a scholarship.
  • Current residents of Alameda County, Contra Costa County, Santa Clara County, and San Mateo County.
• Minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.
• Demonstrated financial need.
• The successful applicant will have demonstrated academic promise, goal orientation, and a commitment to completing a degree program

Scholarship Amount

Up to $500 - Community College or Trade school

Up to $5,000 - Four Year College Program

Scholarship to be used for the “Self-Help” portion of Financial Aid. 

Number of Awards: Up to a maximum of two awards per year per person.
